So you’ve got an AdWords account up and running. You’ve got ads showing on mobile. You’ve even got call extensions showing and you’re getting phone calls.
Now you’re looking to run some call only ads, and mobile ads with the CallRail click-to-call integration to further enable prospects to call your business. Great! We can totally help.
The thing is - only a few configurations of ads within AdWords will allow for the integration to work properly (so you can see keywords in CallRail). The good news however, is that I’m here to help! Here are said configurations:
- Call-only ads within a normal campaign
- Call-only ads in a call-only campaign
- Mobile-only ads in a normal campaign
The most important point to note for all configurations is that you need to have the tracking number added as a campaign level call extension.
Secondly, for any ads that are not call-only, you’ll need to make sure they’re only showing on mobile devices. This means setting a campaign-level device type bid adjustment to prevent your ads from showing on desktop and tablets. Then, to make sure you’re still showing ads on desktops and tablets, create another campaign with the opposite bid adjustments in place, with another number to make sure you’re not missing out on impressions.
However, if you don’t want to split up your campaigns into desktop/tablet and mobile, the other option is to just set your call extension number device targeting to “Mobile Devices Only” under the Edit menu when you’re looking at your call extensions. The only downside to this method is that your number will not appear alongside desktop or tablet ads. If you’re alright with that, this method is easier.
